We have the consent of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (OCCP) for ash management – ecological undertaking by Ciech and Lafarge
5/25/2009

OCCP gave its consent for concentration by creating a joint enterprise under the name Hatra Cement i Beton Sp. z o.o. by Lafarge Cement SA and Soda Polska Ciech Sp. z o.o. This consent causes that the contract concluded between Soda Polska Ciech and Lafarge Cement comes into effect concerning fly-ash recovery and their use for production of the so-called green cement.

On September 2nd, 2008, Lafarge and Ciech decided to create a joint Ash Management Plant (AMP) with Lafarge holding a 71% share in it and Soda Ciech Polska – a 29% share. The plant will be built for more than PLN 40 million. It will be located next to the Janikosoda Production Plant in Janików, i.e. one of two production plants of Soda Polska Ciech. The use of this innovative ash separation technology, for the first time not only in Poland but also in the whole of continental Europe, will contribute to better environmental protection. This technology uses ash from soda production in the Kujawy company of the Ciech Chemical Group as a raw material. Apart from this, high-carbon ash that is produced in the separation process will be used for the production of heat by the Power Plant of Soda Polska Ciech. This will reduce the consumption of coal as an energy source and will bring savings for the Group.

Until Soda Polska Ciech’s capital involvement in the enterprise, the project is managed by Hatra Cement i Beton Sp. z o.o. (owned 100% by Lafarge). This company applied for investment support in terms of subsidies from the European Union. In cooperation with Soda Polska Ciech, Hatra Cement i Beton announced tenders and has already awarded contracts for the purchase of a separator with the delivery date in June 2009 as well as for preparation of documentation for the Ash Management Plant and construction of supply systems (supplying ash from the Power Plant of Soda Polska Ciech to AMP). A land use permit was obtained as well as all the necessary official permits, including the building permit for the locations Janikowo and Mątwy. The winning tender for the construction of AMP and the supply systems was announced. Simultaneously with these works, the Investment Implementation Department of Soda Polska Ciech prepared a conception for construction of an air compressing room for AMP and a combustion gas desulphurisation system.

The planned deadline for completion of the investment is 2010.
