2/22/2008

Press release – Warsaw, February 22nd, 2008

The first postgraduate studies in Poland aimed especially at individuals working in the chemical industry have been prepared by Ciech Chemical Group in cooperation with the Faculty of Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The postgraduate studies “Chemical and process technology and engineering" started the last weekend of February 2008. The first edition of the studies is aimed at the employees of Ciech Chemical Group holding Master of Arts or Master of Science degrees (among the participants there are graduates of different schools, including universities). If other companies express interest in postgraduate studies for their employees; this author’s own programme of studies may be modified in order to make it possible to organise subsequent editions of studies.

“Within the next few years, Ciech plans to join the group of the 20 biggest European companies. Postgraduate studies constitute an investment in our employees and in the Group’s future,” said Mr Mirosław Kochalski, Ciech’ CEO and the Group’s Director.
The programme of the studies targeted at the employees of Ciech Chemical Group includes 180 hours and is divided into two semesters. The studies aim at improving the employees’ qualifications by means of equipping them with state-of-the-art knowledge about technological processes, new products and technologies as well as familiarising them with financial and economic analysis of investment projects. The participants meet for two-day sessions held every second weekend, on Saturdays and Sundays. Lectures will be delivered for all the participants of the studies, seminars and classes for the groups.

The studies are divided into five topical groups:
I. New chemical technologies and apparatus solutions.
II. Designing individual processes, modelling processes and new methods of realisation.
III. Methods in computer aided design.
IV. Calculating the economic and financial effectiveness of investment processes.
V. Planning and implementing investment processes.

Additionally, there will be two seminars in the programme of the studies:

  • Diploma seminar – diploma works prepared by the participants of the studies on subjects relating to the scope of business activity of Ciech Chemical Group.
  • A seminar conducted by experienced employees from the sector devoted to the discussion of the whole development cycle from the creation of technology to industrial application and development of an existing technology.

Among those invited to conduct seminars are distinguished Polish scientists, including the Polish Nobel Prize winners: Professor Dr. Krzysztof Matyjaszewski, Professor Dr. Leon Gradoń and Professor Dr. Adam Proń.
The participants of the studies were appointed by the members of Management Boards of the Group’s companies and Heads of Departments working within the framework of the Group.
Undergraduate chemical studies for experienced persons constitute a novelty on the Polish market. Up to now most higher education institutions have conducted classes in chemistry targeted at future chemistry teachers.

Ciech Chemical Group has not only invested in their employees' competences but has also decided to develop its innovative and development activities on a wider scale. In 2008 the Group will spend 120 million PLN on the development of new products and projects aimed at the optimalisation of manufacturing processes. “Development in a modern company, such as Ciech, must be based on knowledge and innovations,” stated Mr Mirosław Kochalski, Ciech's CEO.
