Framework agreements as a foundation of new research projects
Framework agreements on the cooperation between higher education institutions and Ciech were ceremonially signed today in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education; they constitute a tool for increasing the company’s innovativeness. It is worth pointing out that nowadays its index in the Ciech Chemical Group is at the high European level. Based on the agreements concluded today, long-term research and development projects and academic activities shall be executed.
Seven selected higher education institutions possess scientific potential of the highest level and specializes in researches similar to the activities of the Ciech Group product companies. These are:
- University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz – cooperation mainly with Zachem company
- Poznań University of Technology – cooperation mainly with Organika-Sarzyna company
- Wroclaw University of Technology – cooperation mainly with Alwernia and Fosfory companies
- Warsaw University of Technology – cooperation mainly with Organika-Sarzyna and Zachem companies
- Szczecin University of Technology – cooperation mainly with Soda Polska Ciech company
- Rzeszów University of Technology – cooperation mainly with Organika-Sarzyna company
- Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń – cooperation mainly with Dywizja Sodowa Ciech SA (Soda Division Ciech SA) and Zachem company.
Strategy of innovation activities and development
The innovativeness indices of the Ciech Group of 2,8% of sales revenues in the year of 2008 are comparable to indices of companies from the West Europe having 3% of revenues.
The implementation of technological and product innovations by companies result in improvement of their competitive position and ensure their harmonious development. It takes place under supervision of Research and Development Office appointed in July 2007 that coordinates innovation and research and development activity within the Group. At the same time each of companies has its own annual plan including the implementation of development and innovation projects.
Previous common projects
The most important activities taken up so far in cooperation with higher education institutions and research institutions are as follows:
A. Appointment of the Council of Experts assisting the President of the Management Board of Ciech SA.
The Council of Experts is a counseling and opinion-forming body assisting the President of the Management Board of Ciech. The most talented representatives in the world of Polish science have been appointed to this Council. The main tasks of the Council of Experts are as follows: to make cooperation science-industry more intensive and expand it, assess the innovation and development plans of the Group companies, identify opportunities to receive additional funds for projects of the Group companies.
B. Frameworks agreements on the cooperation with research and development units.
The Ciech Chemical Group signed framework agreements on the cooperation as regards the implementation of innovation projects and realization of research and development projects with five the biggest research and development units in the chemical branch in Poland. These are:
- Institute of Heavy Organic Synthesis ”Blachownia”
- Fertilizers Research Institute in Puławy
- Institute of Inorganic Chemistry in Gliwice
- Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry in Warsaw
- Industrial Chemistry Research Institute in Warsaw.
Based on signed framework agreements, the Ciech Chemical Group companies perform a number of research and development projects and commence cooperation concerning the modernization of existing technological solutions.
C. Postgraduate Studies of the Chemical and Process Engineering and Technology.
In 2007, the Ciech Chemical Group in cooperation with the Warsaw University of Technology
opened postgraduate studies the aim of which was to improve qualifications of the Group’s employees. Studies last two semesters. Lecturers are given by scientific personnel of Departments of Chemical Technology, Chemical and Process Engineering, Materials Engineering and experts from the Ciech Group.
