Ciech for Monuments: renovating the Krasiński Palace facade

Within the initiative "Ciech for Monuments" Ciech SA spent 700 thousand in 2007 PLN on renovation of the facade of one of the most beautiful monuments in Warsaw, the Palace of the Republic, also known as the Krasiński Palace. The National Library, situated near the Krasiński square, uses the building to store its most precious collections (manuscripts and antique books). The contract for the donation was signed by Mirosław Kochalski, president of Ciech and Tomasz Makowski, director of the National Library, on May 8th, 2007.
Thanks to the donation, this 17th century palace will regain its former glamour and become the pride of Warsaw’s Krasiński square. The renovation of the frontage will be carried out in 2008.
The Chemistry Contest Sponsorship
The Ciech Chemical Group supports talented students of upper primary schools who are interested in chemistry. Ciech SA, as a sponsor of 54th Chemistry Contest, gave funds to finance its second phase as well as for gifts for its participants and prizes for the winners. Ciech Chemical Group companies also handed out gifts for students taking part in the first phase of the Contest. As a sponsor, Ciech SA will fund three scholarships for the contest finalists to enable them to study chemistry at technical higher education schools.
The Contest is a nationwide competition for the young. Its finalists will be able to enrol in chemistry courses, free from the obligation to take entrance exams. Almost 950 students participated in the first phase of the Contest held in November 2007. The second phase was expected to take place at the end of January 2008. The finalists of the contest will be announced by the end of March.
“We are very pleased with the support provided by Ciech, thanks to which we can be sure the money will be available on time,” said Wanda Szelągowska, lecturer in the Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University and co-manager of the Contest.
Patronage of Comic of the Warsaw Uprising

The Warsaw Uprising Museum and the most gifted Polish cartoon artists created a book of 17 short stories about the 1944 uprising. “This book would not exist if it was not for Ciech, who sponsored the publication. Thanks to the support of Ciech the price for the comic has been reduced and thus it is more affordable for young people,” said Jan Ołdakowski, the Warsaw Uprising Museum director, during the first presentation of the "44" comic. The premiere of the publication was held at the end of August.
Some of the illustrated short stories were created by the artists themselves. The remainder are true stories that the insurgents described to the graphic artists and scriptwriters. Some of them were present at the cartoon presentation i.e. Janusz Brochwicz-Lewiński (known by the pseudonym of Gryf) and Tadeusz "Leszczyc" Sumiński.
We support local initiatives

Ciech Chemical Group companies are involved in numerous ventures on the local level, supporting cultural, educational, charity and sporting events of considerable importance for the regions. In 2007 Ciech SA sponsored one of the two concerts of a legendary orchestra performed at Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera and of the 11th Song Festival for Disabled Youth, "Artistic Impressions – Ciechocinek 2007".
