The Ciech Chemical Group and the Faculty of Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology have implemented a postgraduate offer for employees of the chemical industry – for the first time in Poland.
The postgraduate studies in “Chemical and Process Engineering and Technology” started in February of this year. The first edition of the studies is offered to employees of the Ciech Chemical Group with an engineer’s or a master’s degree. The aim of the studies is to enhance the qualifications of employees by providing them with the most up-to-date knowledge on technological processes, new products and technologies as well as with an introduction to the financial and economic analysis of investments.
“In several years’ time, Ciech aims to join the group of the 20 greatest enterprises in Europe. With the postgraduate studies, we invest in our employees and in the future of the Group”, says Mirosław Kochalski, the President of Ciech and the Head of the Group.
The curriculum created for employees of the Ciech Chemical Group covers 180 hours, and the studies last two semesters. The group of experts invited to hold seminars consists of distinguished Polish scientists, e.g. the winners of the “Polish Nobel Prize”: Professor Krzysztof Matyjaszewski, Ph.D., Professor Leon Gradoń, Ph.D., and Professor Adam Proń, Ph.D.
Postgraduate studies in chemistry for practicians are a novelty on the Polish market. So far, most universities have been organising chemistry classes dedicated to educating future teachers of chemistry.
Apart from investing in the competencies of employees, the Ciech Chemical Group has also decided to boost its innovation and development activity. The company plans to spend 120 million PLN on developing new products and projects aimed at optimising production processes in 2008. “Development in a modern-day chemistry company like Ciech must be based on expertise and innovations”, says Mirosław Kochalski, the President of Ciech.
